Occasionally we may send home little projects to be completed at home.
The best way to prepare your child to learn is by reading with them. Exposure to literature at an early age is essential for developing a life long love of reading. We recommend choosing different types of books. Fiction as well as non-fiction, picture books, rhyming stories, nursery rhymes, etc. Fairfield Public Library is a great resource.
Our classroom will utilize iPads which are preloaded with learning games. These devices are not connected to the internet. We monitor the computer center and limit the time children spend there. However, we feel there are many benefits to allowing the children to have experience with such technology.
There are many goals that we set for our preschoolers.
Both classes work on independence, taking care of their own needs, following directions, making friends, sharing, and being respectful of others.
Our class routine is developed to assist the children to make appropriate choices, while being gently guided by our teachers.
The learning centers are pivotal in this regard. We have an art center, writing center, manipulative's, math games, dramatic play, housekeeping, technology, sensory table, science area, snack area (Snack time is chosen independently as not all children are hungry at the same time.), blocks, large motor, and a small library with reading area. Additional learning centers are added as the year progresses. All of the centers are hands-on and provide multiple learning opportunities.
Music is instrumental in our program. We use fun songs for exercise and learning such as a calendar song.
At the beginning of the year we do many projects around the children's names to help them learn to recognize their name as well as learning to write it.
We do learning projects around the seasons incorporating science. We utilize videos from SciKids which has age appropriate, interesting science lessons.
Our 4 year old class will begin learning letter sounds (phonetic awarness), letter recognition, as well as upper and lower case letters. We will incorporate preschool journaling as well as fun letter recognition art projects and games.
It is our goal that the children have fun and are challenged in their learning.
